hi i would like to rename my whole mame colection with their full game names instead of the standart file names

for example

Super Vehihle 1 Metal Slug X blablabla.zip

instead of

mslugba.zip

how is that possible?

No, this is not possible, and it would be useless as mame looks for files with a given name, which is the dos 8 char name.

i was thinking about changing the source or modifying an existing dat
but i was hoping some1 has already done this for catalog purposes

btw i dont really give a shit if mame can read them honestly this is for archiving purposes

The only way is to edit a datafile and replace the dos name by the description.
This can be done with a romcenter 2 datafile and excel.

- Import the dat in excel using the correct field separator
- Copy the description column upon the filename column
- Save the dat with the correct field separator.
- Re-import datafile in romcenter.
