RC won't fix roms

I'm new to this rom center program. I put my roms in the directory menu onthe left of rom center, but all of them are gray. There are no red, yellow or Green roms. When I highlight one and ask the program to fix it, it says "no fix done. " Am I doing something wrong? When I try to play the rom from the RC program, if the rom is un-playable, all it will tell me is that I am missing certain files. How do I merge those files from working roms, etc. or fix the ones I already have?
Please help.

Firstly, you need a correct datafile to manage your roms. If you have mame roms, you need the mame datafile etc...
Once you get the correct datafile, you should have colored roms, green, yellow and red (See explanation in the help) and you can fix some of them.

I downloaded the datafiles, but most if not all of the games are not listed in the data files. How do I get the data file with the right roms for the games I have?

It is the other way around... you get a data file and then find the ROMs that it specifies. Which data files are you trying to use?

I am trying to use the datafiles that specify MAME in the romcenter website.

Then the problem is that your ROMs are not incorrect and need fixing. RomCenter may be able to do some of that fixing by renaming ZIPs and files inside them but some problems may require some re-downloading.
Anyway, if you learn how to use RomCenter's fixing options then the datafile will be able to audit all of your ROMs for you. The information within the datafile comes straight from the MAME executable so it always matches MAME.
Also, it sounds that you are new to RomCenter so do not use the MAME Supplements or MAME Changes. They are for a very specific use and you will only need the standard MAME data file for now.
